My name is Preston Huntington, and hockey has been my lifelong passion. Even at 32, I still channel my inner Dominik Hašek in my men’s beer league team.

In 2016, while attending grad school at Norwich University in Vermont, I co-founded a women’s club hockey team. This experience ignited my enthusiasm for women’s hockey. After graduation, I moved to the Washington, D.C. area, where I now serve as the Director of Goaltending Development for the Loudoun Knights in Leesburg, VA. In this role, I had the privilege of launching the inaugural girls’ teams within our local program, marking a significant milestone in promoting and developing women’s hockey in our community.

But how does Czechia fit into all this?

In high school, I randomly chose Czechia for a geography project and instantly fell in love with the country. For the past 17 years, I’ve immersed myself in Czech culture and history, even dedicating my master’s thesis to Czech international relations. Naturally, I’ve become a huge fan of Czech hockey.

In 2024, my wife, my friend Dan, and I attended the Women’s World Championship, where I finally saw the Czech national team in person. Witnessing these incredible athletes represent a country that means so much to me was an unforgettable experience. Seeing how much it meant to the players to have supporters in the arena filled me with pride as a Czech hockey fan. Inspired by this life-changing opportunity, we’re now planning to attend the next tournament in South Bohemia in 2025.

In the meantime, attending the Worlds got me thinking about how I could help bring the talent and success of these women to a larger audience. That’s why I started this blog and its sister Instagram account (@Czechwhockey_Report), dedicated to Czech women’s hockey.

I don’t claim to know everything about each athlete, and managing a social media account and a website isn’t my full-time job. But I’m passionate about showing the world that women’s sports are here to stay. Women’s hockey is growing, succeeding, and breaking barriers—even in places like Czechia. Both my wife Jenny and Dan, have now become hooked, and support this project in a variety of different ways. Their participation is unbelievably appreciated, and they are part of everything I do.
